Church of Word

JOHN 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

If and when you understand and believe these words from John, you will experience a paradigm shift.

God did not wait until John 1:1 to start us on our understanding of this basic truth from the Bible. Where else would anyone start with such an important basic concept but in the Book of Genesis.

Genesis 1:3

And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

If and when you understand and believe John 1:1, you will read Genesis again and it will be like reading new passages for the first time. If you are having trouble with time and time lines in the Book of Genesis and are asking "How long did it take?" do not fret, the likes of Newton, Einstein and today Hawking have all wrestled with the concept of time. Only your boss paying you by the hour is sure of what time is.

If we look to 2 Peter 3 verse 8 we find time by God's reckoning is beyond our logical reasoning and time can only begun to be understood with our faith in God.

2 Peter 3 : 8

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Through Jesus we are taught how to pray.

Luke 11 : 1-4

1. And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
2. And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
3. Give us day by day our daily bread.
4. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

Few have made a better comment
about the Lord's prayer than John Wayne.
He has a little help from Dean Martin.

You may want to read the rest of Luke 11. We have the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule. These are not easy rules to follow. However, if your life is not what you believe it should be, you might want to begin adopting some more of these rules into your daily routine. I believe your life will improve. I know the pain of ignoring our basic handbook. Join the adventure. God wants you to succeed. God gives you choice and free will. If God severly punished you for making the wrong choices you would not have free will. (For example: jumping off a tall bridge will most likely end your choices in this life. No free will there unless you have planned ahead with a parachute, bungee cord, etc.) We will make mistakes, we will feel pain. Let it not discourage you.

A big thank you to Pastor Jim Baize for sharing this with me.

We all believe in god (or have faith in god) but many don't acknowledge that faith or belief. There is a difference between what you think and what you believe. When you are in a safe comfortable room with friends, what you think seems the most important. When you are in a dangerous precarious treacherous situation where life and limb are at risk - what you believe and have faith in becomes the most important. What action does your faith tell you to take? Often that action is almost automatic.

When you don't acknowledge and work with your faith, you lose much of your power. You are probably asking yourself why do I fail when others seem to succeed with so little effort?

If eternal damnation is the price of sinning on this small planet,
then we have not really been given free choice.
We have a forgiving God. After centuries he may have realized that while man is a fantastic creation, He was not perfect in His creation. Even those who wrote His words were not perfect. And those who created his churches did not always have the same interpretation of His words. He did send his son Jesus to help clarify His words and to give hope and peace to those who are not always willing or able to follow His teachings.

Your words and your choices create your reality. Accepting the fact that you have Freedom means you accept the responsibility for who you are and where you are. Not everyone is ready for that.

We play in a game where we don't know all the rules. We learn those rules by reading, experience and observation. Our ability to successfully play this game of life began with those who populated our youth.

The Bible is not a bad place to learn some of those rules. Check out the Ten Commandments and the words of Jesus. You may find a couple of Aces with which to the play this game. You may grow to feel like you are taking advantage of your adversaries. So? Do not feel guilty if you find yourself in Eden. There will always be many who will find themselves East of Eden as in John Steinbeck's gripping novel.

We have all heard the story of the genie in the bottle who gave three wishes to the person who uncorked his bottle or rubbed the lamp in which he was imprisoned. We know the disasterous results that often followed such a gift. Remember the pawn broker in the Twilight Zone with the cracked glass in his display case. Fix the glass in the case, the million dollars, leader of a country, he found himself in a bunker with a Charlie Chaplin mustache, the tax man came, and the final insult of the cracked glass. Aladdin may have faired the best from his wishes.

Do not waste such a wish. Here is my wish for such a genie, "May all my friends be very happy, very rich, very generous and have a deep love of Jesus and our U.S. Constitution." I have not been able to come up with a more self serving wish than this in all my 73 years. Some of you may find some of these characterists very aggravating in your friends. But think about how you would feel and who you would be with such friends. Compare that to where you are now. I'll bet some of you, just a rare few, are already living in Eden. My spirit is still too rebellious to always reside in such a place. I believe God gives us the Freedom to choose. For most, the Freedom to experiment or to choose badly on occasion is still worth the pain it brings. Learning can often be a painful process.

Now read John 1:1 again: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Read Matthew 17:20 - And Jesus said to them, "Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you." Remember and think about 2 Peter 3 : 8 - "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." Patience.

Do you need a genie in a bottle? You have been given the tools to create your own reality. Do you see them? Are you using them? Like any set of tools, you will need to learn how to use them. You will need to practice using them. Patience. We have been given a gift that is far better and more effective than any genie in a bottle with 3 wishes.
