If eternal damnation is the price of sinning on this small planet,
Then you have not really been given a choice.
We have a forgiving God.
Your choices create your reality.
Accepting the fact that you have Freedom means you accept the responsibility for who you are and where you are.
We play in a game where we don't know all the rules. We learn those rules by reading, experience and observation. Our ability to successfully play this game of life began with those who populated our youth.
The Bible is not a bad place to learn some of those rules. Check out the Ten Commandments and the words of Jesus. You may find a couple of Aces with which to the play this game. You may grow to feel like you are taking advantage of your adversaries. So? Do not feel guilty if you find yourself in Eden. There will always be many who will find themselves East of Eden as in John Steinbeck's gripping novel.
We have all heard the story of the genie in the bottle who gave three wishes to the person who uncorked his bottle or rubbed the lamp in which he was imprisoned. We know the disasterous results that often followed such a gift. Remember the pawn broker in the Twilight Zone with the cracked glass in his display case. Fix the glass in the case, the million dollars, leader of a country, he found himself in a bunker with a Charlie Chaplin mustache, the tax man came, and the final insult of the cracked glass. Aladdin may have faired the best from his wishes.
Do not waste such a wish. Here is my wish for such a genie, "May all my friends be very happy, very rich, very generous and have a deep love of Jesus and our U.S. Constitution." I have not been able to come up with a more self serving wish than this in all my 67 years. Some of you may find some of these characterists very aggravating in your friends. But think about who you would be under such circumstances and where you are now. I'll bet some of you, just a rare few, are already living in Eden. My spirit is still too rebellious to always reside in such a place. I believe God gives us the Freedom to choose. For most the Freedom to experiment or to choose badly on occasion is still worth the pain it brings. Learning can often be a painful process.
Now read John 1:1 again: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Read Matthew 17:20 - And Jesus said to them, "Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you." Remember and think about 2 Peter 3 : 8 - "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." Patience.
Do you need a genie in a bottle? You have been given the tools to create your own reality. Do you see them? Are you using them? Like any set of tools, you will need to learn how to use them. You will need to practice using them. Patience.
